Tukulan is one of the brightest exotic objects in Yakutia that doesn’t have any analogs in the world. Real desert unexpectedly arises in the middle of the Siberian taiga on the bank of the northern river Lena. In translation from the Evenk language «tulukan» means «sands». The biggest tulukan called Saamys-Kumaga is situated in Diring Yuryakh. The sands reign here making the desert among a green taiga. «Tulukan» is a real Yakut exotic. There are some differences between real deserts and tukulan: tukulan has deep lakes nearby, many vegetation and climatic situation.

Formation of deserts isn’t always connected with roast and an arid climate. Sometimes they meet in northern territories. There is an assumption that tukulan represent sandy deposits of ancient Lena which, perhaps, flowed to the west of its modern course tens of thousands years ago.

Tukulans are attractive not only by the fact that they are exotic: it is possible to ski on dunes. This place is very popular among youth.
